Controversy arose at the end of the college football season last year when several players chose to sit out the college bowl games in order to avoid injuries that might have prevented them from big earnings with their upcoming NFL contracts. There was no incentive for them to risk their physical health playing in a game that would not profit them, whereas, holding out for the big payoff in NFL earnings was a huge incentive to save themselves for teams that offered them huge earnings.
