"Britnie Turner Keane, 28, owns Aerial, a real estate development firm with 15 employees that has been cashing in on Nashville’s housing boom. She has 10 mixed-use projects in the works, including a 10-acre complex next to a greenway, where she expects homes to fetch up to $550,000. One of six home-schooled children in rural South Carolina, Keane says God first guided her to missionary work in Africa and later told her to change course and go into business. She struggled, hoping that a beauty pageant win would help her break into real estate sales. Instead, after being named Miss North Carolina, she racked up $35,000 on her credit card and wound up living in her car. In this interview, which has been edited and condensed, she describes how she clawed her way out of debt and then bootstrapped her company, which expects $40 million in revenue this year."
