How is a socialist economic system different from a free market economic system, and does it really matter?
To answer that question consider the recent case of Charlie Gard, an 8 month old who was taken from his parents and put to death by the British government. Charlie suffered from a rare medical condition that the British government refused to pay money to treat under its government-controlled socialist healthcare system. What is so sickening about this situation is that Charlie's parents had raised support from private donors to pay for Charlie to be flown to the U.S. and to pay for his treatment there. However, a British court ordered that total control over Charlie be seized by the government and he was forcibly removed from life support before Charlie's parents could get him safely to the U.S.
"Here we have elements of the free market working as expected but with the government actively, and openly, doing everything it can to interfere with it."
